Appointed Commission Member
National Basketball Leagues Limited (NBLL)
Purpose and Context
With the role of governing the Sal’s NBL, G.J. Gardner Homes Tauihi and the Sky Broadband Rapid Leagues, the Commission is tasked with the continued growth of NZ’s National basketball leagues through broadcast and professionalism and to enhance the fan engagement and drive high performance basketball. Basketball New Zealand wants to see innovation and for the sport to deliver to more fans both nationally and internationally. Expectations have been set high for the continued growth of the leagues in Aotearoa.
As part of the annual commission appointment cycle we are seeking one Appointed Commission member to join the established commission and to help deliver this vision. By way of note, the NBLL recruitment process is brand new with the Commission only being established in 2024.
Basketball is a sport with momentum and showcases financially sound National Leagues which make a big impact on people and their communities.

Person Specification
Basketball New Zealand requires NBLL to have a maximum of 4 positions being held by self-identified males on the Commission. Achieving this gender balance will therefore be a key focus of the Appointment Panel, thus allowing the appointee to be either Male or Female.
The background we are seeking for the new appointee is:
Personal traits of our successful commission member will include collegiality, pragmatism and a strong affinity with professional sport/fans/fan engaging environments.
For the Appointed role, an interest in, and understanding of, the leagues and the sport of basketball in New Zealand is required.
Section 6.3 of the NBLL Constitution outlines the rules for Ineligibility which include the following for your reference.

Time commitment and term
1.5-2 hour meetings are held monthly (although the frequency may increase should the need arise for an urgent ruling) online.
We anticipate the role starting at the Tauihi Franchise Meeting in Auckland on 20th/21st February 2025 for an initial term of three years.
Remuneration
This role is not remunerated. Expenses, including travel are reimbursed.
