Game Review Commissioner Decision: Sharks vs. Hawks (Round 11)

The Sal's National Basketball League Games Review Commissioner (GRC) has reviewed an incident that occurred during the game between the Southland Sharks and Hawke's Bay Hawks on June 6th during round 11. 

Disqualifying fouls were issued to Andrew Wheeler (Sharks) and Jacob Murphy (Hawks) for an incident between the two that occurred with 15.8 seconds remaining in the 4th quarter of their Sky Broadband Rapid League game at ILT Stadium Southland. 

The GRC found that Jacob Murphy had committed a classifiable offence, pursuant to the NBL Tribunal Policy, namely striking and or elbowing involving careless contact with the opponent and was of low impact to the body.

The base sanction for this offense is a $300 fine that was reduced to $150 with an early plea, which was accepted.

The GRC found that Andrew Wheeler had committed a classifiable offence, pursuant to the NBL Tribunal Policy namely striking and or fighting or wrestling involving intentional contact with the opponent and was of low impact to the body.

The base sanction for this offense is a $600 fine that was reduced to $300 with an early plea, which was accepted.

In a related incident, during the altercation Hawks import Isaiah Moore left the Hawke's Bay bench in response to the activity and upon reviewing game footage the GRC's preliminary finding was that Isaiah Moore had committed a classifiable offence, pursuant to the NBL Tribunal Policy namely bench clearing during a fight or melee.

As this was Moore's first offense he was issued a fine of $500 that was reduced to $250 with an early plea, which was accepted. 

This matter is now concluded with all players available for all team activities moving forward.
