Huskies Import Armoni Brooks Signed By Houston Rockets

The Sky Tower Auckland Huskies American star Armoni Brooks has signed a two-way NBA contract with the Houston Rockets, effective immediately.

Brooks was preparing to board a flight to Auckland when he received the call from the Rockets. The chance to start his NBA career means the Huskies will now look to replace Brooks.

Having been selected as the 10th pick in the 2021 G League draft Huskies GM Matt Lacey knew Brooks was an NBA prospect.

“Armoni had an outstanding G League season with the Rockets affiliate club Rio Grande Valley Vipers so we knew he was on the radar of a few NBA teams,” said Lacey.

Brooks was also the overall league leader in 3 point makes. The 22 year-old played 31 minutes per game, leading the Vipers scoring averaging 16.8 points per outing.

“He is an exciting player that shoots the ball at an elite level and we are sorry that Huskies fans will not get to see him in person.

“Having said that we are delighted that he has realised his dream of playing in the NBA and we wish him nothing but the best as he makes his NBA debut with the Rockets. We couldn’t be happier for him.

“Armoni’s call up to the NBA demonstrates the quality of player the Huskies wish to sign. Head Coach Aaron Young and his staff deserve a huge amount of credit for the scouting work they had undertaken to identify and recruit a player of Armoni’s talent.

“For now we will follow his career with close interest and hope that one day in the future he will appear in a Huskies uniform.”

The Sky Tower Auckland Huskies will announce a replacement for Brooks in due course
