NBL ADVISORY: Coach Green charged by NBL Game Review Panel

The National Basketball League’s (NBL) Game Review Panel (GRP) has charged the Supercity Rangers Head Coach, Jeff Green, on three counts after last night’s game against the Manawatu Jets. Those charges are:

  • Excessive disputing of a game official decision.
  • Excessive obscene gesture/language to any person.
  • Unsportsmanlike behaviour.

Each charge carries a penalty of a $125 fine with an early plea, or the defendant can elect to appeal and request a tribunal hearing with a risk of receiving a maximum penalty totalling $250 per charge.

Coach Green has 48 hours to respond to these charges.

If Coach Green appeals, the rules state that the defendant is not permitted to take part in any games arising prior to hearing of that charge by the Tribunal.

General Manager of the NBL, Justin Nelson, says enforcement of the League’s regulations is essential.

“It is disappointing that we have needed to lay charges so early in the season, but it is important that everyone is aware that these rules will be enforced. Integrity of our League and the game of basketball is of high importance and there is a process in place to protect that.

“I want to emphasise that this is a brilliant League that has some amazing players and coaches. It is in the public eye more than ever before and we will be doing all that we can to protect the integrity of the sport and the league,” says Mr Nelson.
