TRIBUNAL JUDGEMENT: SAINTS’ HARRIS APPEAL UPHELD

APPEAL UPHELD AT TRIBUNAL - HYRUM HARRIS FREE TO PLAY ANZAC DAY SHOWDOWN WITH HAWKS

Mills Albert Wellington Saints forward Hyrum Harris faced a tribunal hearing on Wednesday night, April 24th following an incident from the April 21st game against the Taranaki Steelformers Airs.

His appeal against a sanction handed down by the Game Review Commissioner (GRC) was upheld by the League Tribunal, meaning he is free to play against the Taylor Hawke's Bay Hawks on Thursday night, Anzac Day.

Harris was involved in an incident with Airs forward Elijah Minnie with 6:45 remaining in the 4th quarter. The incident was referred by the Airs to the GRC and was processed through the League disciplinary system.

Statement from Leagues Game Review Commissioner Keith Binnie,  "In these circumstances, the preliminary findings were that Saints player Mr. Hyrum Harris had committed a classifiable offence, pursuant to the NBL Tribunal Policy namely elbowing, and/or unreasonable contact with the head and/or unduly rough play involving careless contact with the opponent, it was of low impact to the head.”

The sanction handed down by the GRC to Hyrum Harris has been overturned by the League Tribunal on the basis that the submitted video evidence put forward by the Taranaki Airs was reviewed and found that to be inconclusive as to whether contact above the shoulder had been sustained and that in the absence of any call from the three game officials that evening, no further sanction would be issued and the appeal/review had been upheld.

This matter is concluded, and Harris is available for all team activities.
