The first step of the 2026 Sal's NBL season commences from 12pm Monday NZT as free agency is officially open and the race to build rosters for the upcoming Sal’s NBL season is on. Over the coming weeks clubs will move quickly to retain core talent, add fresh pieces, and balance their lists with the right mix of experience and emerging stars.
“Free Agency is where clubs shape their identity for the season ahead,” said Maree Taylor, General Manager of Leagues. “Fans will see plenty of movement as coaches target the right fits for their playing style. It is always an exciting time for our league.”
Teams can again sign up to three international players, otherwise known as imports, while a Salary Cap put in place and agreed to by all teams, will again be a key part of how teams recruit over the coming months.
Teams must sign and register a minimum of 12 players, and while they can sign more than 15 players, they cannot register any more than 15 players at a time.
This is the first step of the journey to the 2026 season with the schedule set to be revealed in the final week of November as the next big date on the calendar.
