The 2020 Sal’s NBL Showdown was a season to remember for a variety of reasons, none more so than being an opportunity for fans to witness live sport amid the COVID-19 pandemic. Seven teams and 84 players put on a great show with 56 games broadcast live on Sky Sport.

The Showdown featured a six-week Auckland hub and resulted in the Fluid Recruitment Otago Nuggets lifting their first ever piece of NBL silverware in a memorable final against the Property Brokers, See Me Media Manawatu Jets.

With players, coaches and League management now back at home and working on preparations for the 2021 season, it’s time for the fans to also play a role in shaping the future of the 39-year old competition.

The League has put forward a 20-question, 2-minute survey for the fans in the hope of receiving input and feedback to help shape the 2021 season, which will be the national competition's Ruby Anniversary (40 years).

“We proudly promote the Sal’s NBL as a fans-first competition and we want to make sure our fans get an opportunity to have a say in the way we are shaping the League for the future,” said League General Manager, Justin Nelson.

“We brought in a lot of changes at the Showdown, many of course were due to the environment we currently find ourselves in, and it's pleasing that some of the changes really hit the mark.

“We have a survey for the players underway right now, we are talking extensively with our broadcast partners and sponsors about what they liked, and we will meet with the teams in early September. But importantly we want to hear from our fans, their feedback is vital.

“We think we’re on the right path with a lot of things we are doing, but we want to make sure the fans are with us and this survey will help us learn and understand a bit more,” added Nelson.
