Rams Look To Exciting Youth For Schick 3X3 Cup

The Wheeler Motor Company Canterbury Rams will turn to an exciting young quartet for the Schick 3X3 Cup at LIT Stadium Southland and based on what they delivered at the Sal's NBL Showdown, this is a dashing young unit that may turn some heads.

Sam Smith (pictured) will lead the team, his 11.9 points, 4.1 rebounds, 3.2 assists and 1.6 treys (at 49%) per game at the Showdown good enough to ensure he will be a dynamic all-round player at this event.

Joining Smith will be youngsters Jack Exeter (19), Mason Whittaker (18) and Ben Carlisle-Smith (19). In selecting their roster the Rams wanted to focus on developing roster depth in the lead-up to the Sal’s NBL in 2021, while providing Carlisle-Smith and Whittaker more elite-level basketball to support their development as they embark on US college careers in the coming year.

Max Darling (Illawarra Hawks) and Taylor Britt (Perth Wildcats) were both unavailable due to heading away to Australia in preparation for the ANBL season. Jack Salt, Joe Cook-Green, Toby Gillooly and Alex Talma are all currently recovering from injury and as they prepare for the 2021 Sal’s NBL Season.

Rams Head Coach Mick Downer, who will coach the Rams 3x3 team, commented on the roster saying;

“Our club is excited about the opportunity to field a young and talented side in the upcoming Schick 3X3 Cup.We are excited about the depth in our Rams squad with young guns Ben, Mason and Jack joining Rams leader Sam Smith in our team.

"These guys thrived in the Sal’s NBL Showdown recently and will continue to compete and represent the Rams well in this exciting new event."
