The Wheeler Motor Company Canterbury Rams have announced the return of Alex Talma for the 2021 Sal’s NBL Season.
Talma has been a part of the Rams since 2019 and has become a core piece in the squad, joining the team after completing his University & Basketball scholarship at Biola University in Los Angles.
A force in last season’s Sal’s NBL Showdown, helping take the team to a semi-final berth, and cementing his place as a team leader on and off the court, Talma's commitments don’t just fall within the basketball court though.
The power forward works full time for Hunter Civil, a community partner of the Canterbury Rams. Through this partnership and collaboration, Alex is able to play with the Rams, while continuing to invest in his future outside of the sport with his work at Hunter Civil.
Hunter Civil General Manager Grant Ballinger is in full support saying, “Hunter Civil is delighted to support Alex in providing time off for him to train and compete. We are proud of his ability to be an elite basketball player and wish both Alex and the Canterbury Rams every success this season.
"We are excited to have Alex on board not only for his impact on the court but how he can be a role model for other athletes looking to pursue their sporting aspirations alongside a working job."
Rams Head Coach Mick Downer commented on Alex’s return saying “It’s an awesome situation to have Alex back fighting hard this season for the Rams.
"He’s an amazing guy who’s juggling a great career professionally, while playing in the NBL. A team-first warrior who imposes himself in the game, representing the name on the back of the jersey with pride while putting the name on the front, first. Alex is a pleasure to be around and a key part of the fabric of our club.”
The Sal’s NBL season tips off on April 24. The Rams will first be in action when they travel to Wellington on Friday April 30.
