The first award for the 2019 Sal's NBL season has been decided with the Fans Favourite Player Award going to Southland Sharks forward, Dom Kelman-Poto.
In the race for the new award, which was determined by 1,671 votes from fans across the league, DKP beat out Wally Ellenson (Manawatu Jets) and Isaiah Wilkins (Canterbury Rams) for the award.
It's also the first time the fans of the Sal's NBL have had the chance to decide on an award, which started with one favourite player from each team being selected by the fans, before the final three players were put up for the award-winning final vote.
The end result was;
Dom Kelman-Poto (Southland Sharks) - 719
Wally Ellenson (Manawatu Jets) - 644
Isaiah Wilkins (Canterbury Rams) - 308
DKP will be presented with the award at the league's Annual Awards Night on Friday July 19 at the Christchurch Casino.
