It's been another big 24 hours in the Sal's NBL as teams continue to prepare for the start of the 2021 season.
The Property Brokers Manawatu Jets continue to turn heads with a squad that could do some serious damage this year, especially after announcing the prize signing of former NBA draft pick, DeAndre Daniels.
The 28-year old is a product of the UConn Huskies and was snapped up by the Toronto Raptors in the 2014 NBA Draft at selection 37.
One of his first gigs as a pro player was in the Australian NBL during the 2014-15 season where he played 30 games and averaged 14.8 points, 7.7 rebounds, 1.2 assists and 1.1 blocks per game. His 232 total rebounds led the league.
The 206cm forward is expected to be a leading player in the Sal's NBL and joins a line-up that promises to be a genuine contender. The Jets squad already includes the likes of talented Kiwi guard Jayden Bezzant, high-scoring American Daishon Knight and three-point specialist Nikau McCullough.
Further north, the newly named Sky Tower Auckland Huskies have welcomed former New Zealand star Brook Ruscoe (pictured) back to the court.
A sensation during his younger years and a National team representative with the Tall Blacks, Ruscoe's career was put on hold due to troubling hip injuries.
Surgery 10 years ago never really settled the issue and it wasn't until a scan in 2018 that the problem was discovered. During routine surgery all those years ago a drill piece had accidently been left in Ruscoe's hip.
A 2019 operation to remove the drill piece was a success and now fully mended, Ruscoe is back on court and can't wait to get going with the Huskies.
Ruscoe will juggle his successful radio career with Mai FM while being a key player for the Huskies.
