Indian Panthers Update

Since last week’s postponed game between the Indian Panthers and Canterbury Rams, the Sal’s National Basketball League has been conducting a thorough investigation into the Indian Panthers.

This process has involved multiple discussions with the Panthers’ ownership and management.

Despite significant due diligence conducted in 2024 — including disclosure of the Panthers' owners' financial backing — the League is disappointed that the required funding for the team has not been delivered as expected. This has resulted in impacts on various stakeholders across the League.

Following a series of Commission meetings held over the past week and numerous deadlines set, the Panthers have not yet managed to remedy any of the breaches that would have allowed the Panthers next two games to go ahead. As a result, the League has made the difficult decision to postpone the Panthers’ upcoming games scheduled for May 14 against the Southland Sharks and May 16 against the Otago Nuggets.

Further, the Commission has resolved to terminate the Participation Agreement on 10 days notice with a list of remediable conditions that are capable of being satisfied. The Panthers have now been given until Monday 19 May 2025 to fully adhere to all conditions. If not satisfied the Participation Agreement will end.

Should the Panthers fulfil all conditions, the Commission will consider whether to lift the notice of termination in which case the games against the Canterbury Rams, Southland Sharks, and Otago Nuggets will be replayed.

Further updates will be provided as soon as they are available.
