Rams A Genuine NBL Title Contender
As the Canterbury Rams continue to chalk up wins in the Sal’s NBL, the league’s General Manager Justin Nelson believes the team’s defensive style of play could take them “all the way to a championship.”
This season’s Final 4 weekend will be held at Horncastle Arena in Christchurch with a vocal home crowd expected to turn out in big numbers for the Rams.
Weekend packages are already on sale and single day tickets will be available from June 17 at ticketek.co.nz
Nelson says he has been “very impressed” with the defensive style of play Rams coach Mick Downer has deployed this season.
“I have enormous respect for Mick and his team, they are such a hard working group with a really positive team ethos,” Nelson said.
“I sat courtside in Hobart and watched the Rams up close and the way they go about their business is very impressive. I like what they are doing a lot.”
Having recently announced that basketball’s World Cup (Naismith Trophy) would be on display at the NBL’s Final 4 on July 20/21, Nelson said the event would be for the fans.
“Crowd numbers are rising across the league, the fans love the Sal’s NBL and some of the most passionate supporters are in Christchurch. Horncastle Arena is the perfect venue for the Final 4 and with the Rams looking like they will be there it promises to be an incredible atmosphere.
"We already know the Wellington Saints will be there and they have a fantastic fan base as well, and they are also really passionate. I have no doubt there will be lots of people flying in from Wellington for the event, their team is playing really well and look hard to beat right now.
"And then of course you have the Hawks, Sharks, Huskies and maybe even the Giants still in contention. The next few weeks are going to be fascinating to watch."
