The Wheeler Motor Company Canterbury Rams have announced the re-signing of energetic and lightning fast guard Joe Cook-Green for the Sal’s NBL 2021 season.
Originally from Otago Boys High School, Joe moved to Christchurch to play at Cashmere High School and join the Mainland Eagles Academy. He also represented New Zealand with the New Zealand Select team in 2017 & the U19 New Zealand Junior Men’s team in 2014.
Arriving back in Christchurch from the USA last year, after a successful college career at Texas Wesleyan University, Joe signed on with the Rams squad for the 2020 Sal's NBL Showdown.
Rams Head Coach Mick Downer commented on Joe saying “His various local and international basketball experience has shaped Joe to be a fierce and energetic guard. His impact on the team for the 2020 season was immediate, as his positive and competitive spirt shone through in the way he trains and carries himself.
"Unfortunately, due to injury, Joe was kept out of the Sal’s NBL Showdown, taking on the role of assisting and leading the team off the court. We can’t wait to have Joe back with our team and on the court for the 2021 campaign.”
Joe’s impact has been felt throughout the community also, as he continues to coach within programs including the CRBF Mentoring, Rams In-Schools, Mainland Eagles and the Rams Guards School. He has also been an inspiring coach at Christ’s College, leading an U17 team and assisting with the Christ’s Senior Squad.
Joe commented on his re-signing with the Rams saying, “I’m very excited to sign with the Canterbury Rams for the 2021 season. They’ve given me nothing but support and opportunity whilst making my way to get back on the court… bring on 2021.”
