A strong third quarter from the 2 Cheap Supercity Rangers has secured their second win of the season defeating the Augusta Mountainairs 103-84.
Marcel Jones tallied 30 points and 14 rebounds, and Lindsay Tait had 23 points and 13 assists for the Rangers, both wins this season coming against Taranaki.
It was always going to be a tough ask for the Airs, who battled last night to beat the Taylor Hawks in overtime. The visitors did lead by four at halftime, but the Rangers would have their best offensive quarter in the third, outscoring the Airs 30-12.
Trailing by 14 at the start of the fourth quarter, Taranaki did close to within eight. But a 13-2 run by the Rangers would halt any chance of a Taranaki comeback.
Alonzo Burton continued his hot run of late with 29 points which included 7-for-12 from three, Javonte Douglas had 23 points, and Xavier Smith added 11 points, nine rebounds and four blocks for the Airs who drop to 3-9.
The win puts the Rangers at 2-10 and will play their three games at home beginning with the SIT Zerofees Sharks on the 5th July.
