The Wellington Saints have held off the 2 Cheap Cars Supercity Rangers for a 98-93 win.
Shea Ili scored a team high 23 points, LJ Peak had 22 points, and Jordan Ngatai finished with 18 points for the Saints who move to 3-1.
After trailing by seven and scoring only 41 points in the first half, Wellington turned it around in the third outscoring the visitors 35-10, shooting 6-for-8 from three. An emphatic dunk from Ngatai looked to have shifted the momentum in favour of Wellington.
But credit to the Rangers, who after trailing by 20 managed to whittle the deficit down to one after a Marcel Jones hook with twenty seconds left.
On the next possession, Peak would score a lay up under the basket, and then was able to prevent Jones from scoring the potential game tier.
The Rangers would have to foul Peak, who would convert both free throws to secure the win.
The Rangers slump to 0-5, but will have a couple days break before they host the Wheeler Motor Canterbury Rams on Sunday.
In his second game with the Rangers, Jones, was scored a game high 26 points, and Lindsay Tait added 21 against his former team. After scoring 43 points against the Jets, Clay Wilson, was quiet tonight scoring only seven points.
