Enjoyed a five year collegiate career. Played 3 years at University of Missouri – Kansas City, a year at University of New Mexico with his final year (2023-24) at University of Nebraska where he averaged 7.3 points and 5.4 rebounds across 33 games.

During his collegiate career played 136 games totalling 1,246 points and 781 rebounds.

Was a Grad Assistant Coach at Nebraska in 2024-25 while rehabbing an ankle injury.

Also played 18 Rapid League games – scored a season high 14 points against Canterbury Rams.

Played 2 games for the Sharks in 2023 making a three against the Tuatara in his debut game in April.

Averaged 16.4 points per game for Southland at the 2024 U20 National Championships – scored 29 points against Nelson.

In 2022 Aparima College won the South Island ‘A’ Secondary Schools Qualifying Tournament to secure a first ever visit to the ‘A’ Secondary Schools National Championships.

Alonzo Burton

Played 16 games for the Sharks in 2024 – averaged 13.9 points and 2.5 rebounds per game. Made 42 from 100 (42%) three-point shots.

Burton will play his fifth season with the Sharks in 2025. Has played 68 games for the Sharks scoring 835 points. 

In total has played 194 NBL games in 12 seasons – scored a career high 29 points against the Super City Rangers in 2018 playing for Taranaki Airs.

Played for the Sharks team that claimed bronze at the 2023 3×3 Cup. Also played on the gold medal winning team in 2022.

Played 7 games for the NZ Breakers in 2013-14 as a Development Player.

Son of Tall Black and NBL legend Willie Burton.

Returned to New Zealand after playing at College Prep in Italy in the European Youth Basketball League in the early months of 2023.

Keylan Boone

Joins the Sharks for his rookie professional season after a 5-year collegiate career.

Played three years at Oklahoma State University followed by a year at Pacific University.

Then played a year (2023-24) at University of Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV) where the Runnin’ Rebels reached the Elite Eight at the National Invitation Tournament .

Averaged 12.7 points, 6.8 rebounds and 1.1 blocks per game at  UNLV playing alongside twin brother Kalib.

Hayden Collier

The Cantabrian spent 2 years at Laramie County College in Wyoming (JUCO) playing 61 games (2017-19).

Then embarked on a five year career at the University of Regina in Canada.

Averaged 8.7 points and 7.9 rebounds per game in his senior year. Graduated in 2024.

Johnny Helu

Attended University of West Florida (NCAA Division II) in 2019-20.

Helu’s partner is Southern Steel netballer Aliyah Dunn who played the 2024 Tauihi season with Southern Hoiho.

Trained with the Sharks in 2024 but yet to make his NBL debut.

Played 10 Rapid League games with a season best 4 points scored against Franklin Bulls.

Played for Southland at the 2024 Tupu League National Championship.

Played for Waitaki Boys High in 2020 that won the Otago Secondary Schools competition. Qualified for the Secondary Schools National Championship but the tournament was cancelled due to COVID.

Tukaha Cooper

High School: Whangarei Boys High School then Rotorua Boys High School.

Previous NBL clubs – Manawatu Jets (2021-23), Auckland Tuatara (2024)

Played 20 games for Auckland Tuatara in NBL’24 – scored a career high 20 points against Otago Nuggets in Round 13.

Also played 15 Rapid League games in 2024 scoring a season high 11 points on two occasions.

Previously played three seasons and made 37 appearances for the Jets. 

Helped Whangarei Boys High School reach the Secondary Schools National Championships in 2019 after an absence of over a decade.

Following the NZNBL season played 8 games in the Czech Republic for Team Olomoucko.

Played his rookie professional season with Leicester Riders in the British Basketball League averaging 10.3 points and 4.1 rebounds per game in 2023-24..

Played three years at Texas State University followed by a year at Oklahoma State University in 2022-23. Averaged 9.7 points and 3.7 rebounds in 34 games for Oklahoma State.

In his third and final year at Texas State was named to the All-Sunbelt Conference First Team after averaging a team high 13.6 points per game.

Will Leger

After debuting in  2023 Leger played 4 games for the Tuatara in 2024 – scored 2 points against Wellington Saints. 

Played 16 Rapid League games in 2024 – scored a season high 7 points against Taranaki Airs.

Averaged 9.2ppg at the 2024 Tertiary National Championships playing for AUT.

A product of the Daryl Cartwright led Mount Albert Grammar School programme from where he graduated in 2022.

The power forward is the younger brother of Josh Leger and a cousin of Krystal and Charlisse Leger-Walker. 

Sam Timmins

Played all 22 games for the Bulls in 2024 – averaged 15.1 points and 9.6 rebounds per game One point shy of equalling his career best Timmins scored a season high 30 points (14/17FG, 2/2 3PG) in the 2024 semi-final loss to Auckland Tuatara.

Played for Okayama Try Hoop in the Japanese League third division in 2024-25, playing alongside Taane Samuel.

A championship winner with Otago Nuggets in 2022 Timmins averaged 15.6 points and 9.5 rebounds per game with the Nuggets in 2023. Timmins played for the Nuggets as a 15-year old in 2013.

Was a Development Player for the NZ Breakers in the 2021-22 Australian NBL season and a fully contracted player in 2022-23 before moving to the Sydney Kings for the 2023-24 season.

Played both Asia Cup Qualifying games for the Tall Blacks in February 2024 – scored an international best 16 points against Chinese Taipei.

In 2014 he was named Tournament MVP as Otago Boys claimed the Secondary Schools National title.

In 2015 crowned FIBA 3×3 U18 World Champions in Hungary playing alongside Matt Freeman, Tai Wynyard and Nikau McCullough.

Following high school Timmins played 4-years NCAA Division I basketball at the University of Washington where he played 128 games for the Huskies – graduating in 2020.
