The delayed start to the NBL's 3X3 season has provided 2020 Schick Cup champion Alonzo Burton with extra time to recover from a hand injury and the slick shooting guard is now set to get back on court with the Hawke's Bay Hawks following a call-up to replace Marcel Jones.
Jones was drafted by the Hawks on draft night, but has since secured an international gig. Under the NBL's 3X3 rules, players who went undrafted, or have since registered after draft night, sit in a pool of players available to teams if they need to replace a member of their team through injury, illness or unavailability, including international contracts.
With the Schick Cup pushed back to December due to Covid restrictions, Burton has now fully recovered from injury and has informed the League he is ready to go, with the Hawks snapping up the experienced star.
The Hawks will take a formidable line-up into the Schick Cup featuring captain Ethan Rusbatch, dynamic guard Derone Raukawa, veteran Everard Bartlett, and Alonzo Burton.
